Frequently asked

What we get asked about velcro curtains

Do stage drapes have to be flame retardant?

Yes, in any venue open to the public. Venues, convention centres and fire prevention services ask for a treatment certificate on installed textiles, and an inspector may ask for it on site. Treatment is not permanent: it is renewed based on the fabric and the cleanings it has been through, and an expired certificate is worth no certificate at all.

How much fullness should a drape have?

Fullness is the extra fabric relative to the width being covered, and it changes look and acoustics alike. A flat-hung backdrop gives a clean surface for projection or camera; 50 to 100 percent fullness gives deep folds, a more opaque black and better absorption of reflections. The choice follows what the drape has to do: hide, absorb or act as a surface.
